Elizabeth Brooks Bio

Elizabeth’s Education:

In the past decade, Elizabeth has begun to paint icons; she studied with Alex Mezentsev, and Ria Kinghorn both Master Iconographers in Toronto. In addition, she is completing Masters courses in Theology with a Visual Art focus, at McMaster Divinity College.

Previously, Elizabeth studied with renowned Canadian Master Artists: Bruce Cochrane, Professor Emeritus Ceramics, Sheridan College; and, the late John Gregg, Master Potter, Fort Langley, B.C. She also studied with the late, internationally recognized, Dr. Annie Smith who founded the Sheridan/University of Toronto Art and Art History program, whose achievements integrated the fields of art education, studio practice and art history. As an emerging artist, Elizabeth was blessed to be mentored by the celebrated visual artist and educator, Gay Mitchell, Port Moody, B.C

Heaven in Earth series was purchased by McMaster Divinity College and permanently installed at McMaster Divinity College, McMaster University, Hamilton ON, March 2020.

Elizabeth was the Artist-in-Residence at McMaster Divinity College 2020 to 2022, where she developed, lead and shared sacred art within College Chapels, and with the community on-line.

Elizabeth's artwork has been exhibited across Canada, including: Toronto, Vancouver, and Kingston in public and private collections; and, abroad in France and Spain. Elizabeth has had many solos exhibitions of her work during the past two decades.

Elizabeth enjoys living and making her work in beautiful Ontario. She is thankful to have two adult sons who are wonderful, creative individuals in their own right.

Elizabeth established her art education career in British Columbia, and from 2001-2022 Elizabeth was the founding Visual Artist Director at King’s Christian Collegiate, a private high school in Oakville, where she mentored hundreds of young art students. In addition, she sat on the Sheridan College Art Fundamentals Advisory Council, 2006-2019. Elizabeth was a Member of Ontario College of Teachers 2001-2022.

Elizabeth is proud of her many graduate art students who have pursued art careers with post-secondary studies in a wide variety of schools, programs, and places, including: Waterloo, Architecture; Sheridan, Animation, Illustration, Game Design, Film Studies; Ryerson, Creative Industries; Ontario College of Art and Design, Illustration; Savannah College of Art and Design, Georgia; School of Visual Arts and Pratt Institute, NYC; Central Saint Martins, University of Arts, London, England.
